The First Year Experience is one of three embedded experiences that is built into the GC curriculum. To “Complete your journey,” for First Year Experience, students need to complete their GCSU 0001 (FYAS) and GC1Y courses.

Evaluation Plan and measures:  Focus groups and white paper

KPIs: raise First to second year retention

Baseline measure (for each KPI): based on previous year’s enrollment

Current/most recent data (for each KPI): 1,720 completed (2023-24)

Goal or targets (for each KPI): Slight decline in FY retention (decreased to 82.35)

Progress and Adjustments: 

Maintaining & making minor adjustments to the curriculum of the class. 

Plan for the Year Ahead: 

Currently, investigating differences in retention rates depending upon whether the course is taught by faculty or academic advisors. Also, instead of grouping students by specific majors, students will be clustered by general interests. A deliberate effort is going to be made to lower average class size for the course (Targeting 25 students)
