Starting Blocks (Kennesaw State University-2024)

KSU’s “Starting Blocks” project launched in Fall 2024.  Block scheduling serves multiple purposes, all designed to enhance the academic experience and support student success. It streamlines the registration process for easier enrollment, ensuring students make appropriate selections of courses, including introductory English and math, during their first semester. It helps minimize potential credit loss if students change majors, and it provides students with the optimal opportunity to register for a full-time (15 credit hour) schedule.

Stepping Blocks Integration into Freshman Orientation Courses (Georgia State University-2024)

In freshman orientation classes each 1st-year student will be required to complete an assignment designed to encourage the use of stepping blocks data.  Based on an academic major of interest, students will research common jobs associated with the major as well as the job market and the salaries associated with these positions.

Enhancing Student Onboarding (Georgia State University-2024)

All incoming first-year students were connected post-NSO with online information and communication from their top 5 engagement choices via the Panther Involvement Network - PIN. During their in-person NSO event, each student attended a 'Panther Connect' session to dive deeper in their top desired involvement opportunity, where they were able to connect and share contact information with students that possess similar interests as them.

Curricular Complexity within College of Engineering (Georgia Institute of Technology-2024)

We are engaging in a large-scale analysis of student success metrics related to curricular complexity to analyze its impact on student time to degree. Curricular Complexity provides a way to analyze the impact of course sequences and required credit hours on a student’s successful progression through the curriculum and their time to degree. Research has shown that curricular complexity is directly related to time to degree; reducing curricular complexity should therefore reduce time to degree for students.

ENDEAVOR (College of Coastal Georgia-2024)

The ENDEAVOR program helps students personalize, internalize, and later articulate their transformation beyond a credential. By awarding ENDEAVOR Tags that celebrate student development and engagement through courses and co-curricular activities, students become more aware of their own growth and are provided with the language to describe the skills they have gained. This language will give them an advantage when entering the workforce, as they will be able to describe their college experience in a way that resonates with employers.

Analyzing degree complexity and its impact on degree completion (Georgia Institute of Technology-2023)

Georgia Tech’s curricular analytics efforts are ongoing to study degree programs, identify majors with high program complexity, and develop adjustments designed to lower complexity and accelerate time to degree completion.

The curricular analytics analysis aligns to the Expand Access focus area of the ISP and overlaps with our examination of equity in student success metrics described in Activity 2.
